Choi Kwang-Do's Senior program is designed specifically for adults ages 50 and up.  It was once thought that only athletes and children could train in the martial arts.  Those days are far behind us with Choi Kwang Do.  Choi Kwang-Do is "The Martial Art For Life"  Choi Kwang Do is designed for optimal health and longevity.  Grandmaster Choi has paid particular attention to the body, its organs and how it functions.  Knowing how our body reacts in certain situations, how our central nervous system interacts with our muscles, brain, and outside environment, helped Grandmaster Choi design a program that is beneficial to our bodies and will prevent decay and create optimal health.  With nine physical and one psychological component, Choi Kwang Do provides a complete system for optimal health.  By practicing Choi Kwang Do on a regular basis, many benefits can be achieved, some of which are:

  2. Increase cardiovascular endurance.
  3. Improve strength and flexibility

  6. Increase bone density through low to medium impact.

All classes will focus on the following:

Warm up and Cool Down Protocol:

Choi Kwang Do warm up and cool down is a complete system from head to ankle.  Warming up the body before performing Choi Kwang Do movements and cooling down after these movements provides many benefits to individuals.  With only needing 10-15 minutes to perform these activities, the benefits that can be obtained are simply amazing considering the short amount of time needed.  These benefits range from helping to prevent injury during activity to the prevention of cellular acid buildup.

Choi Kwang Do Stretch:

The way to achieve flexibility is practicing a constant routine of stretching.  Most students will only stretch when they come to class.  Very rarely will they stretch out at home on their own.  Grandmaster Choi has put together a comprehensive stretching system that is complete and will provide a total body stretch for students.  Choi Kwang Do's stretching system is unlike Yoga or any other system.  It is based off of scientific principles that will enhance your flexibility and range of motion in Choi Kwang Do techniques.  Most of all this system of stretching will help to promote optimum health.

Choi Kwang Do Patterns:

Choi Kwang Do patterns are a series of movements that are executed at a slow steady pace.  This helps the students to focus and to condition their body.  Many benefits can be obtained from performing patterns.  Increased body awareness, energy and oxygen intake are some of these benefits.  Choi Kwang Do patterns are also used to simulate real-life, practical self defense skills.  Focusing on an imaginary attacker helps to increase the stimulation and brings fun into the execution of patterns.

          Choi Kwang Do Character Development:


Choi Kwang Do is not only practiced for optimal health, it is also practiced for optimal mental health.  Throughout our training, we are taught to relax and focus on our techniques.  Through the various components of Choi Kwang Do, we gain self confidence and a good positive outlook.   A person's mental state and physical health have a direct relationship.  Many studies have been conducted that all point to a persons state of mind having an effect on a persons health and their immune system.
